430 days

The most written blog post is probably the cliche 'welcome to my blog!'. The second most written has to be the 'oops, it's been awhile!' post. And here's my submission to the latter

It's been 430 days since my last post (or so google says, math was never my thing) and I could probably name 430 things that have changed since then but let's just start with a few of the highlights...

| * | Moved to Nigeria

Exploring Lagos
Wait what?  Home for Nick and I is now Lagos, Nigeria! Crazy night? Nick's new job will have us moving to a new place every 2-3 years so that definitely crosses 'live in a foreign country for over 30 days' off the 'ol bucket list

| * | Paris

Mandatory Eiffel Tower Selfie
Speaking of bucket list items, Nick surprised me with a trip to Paris to propose! We spent a few days eating macaroons and drinking champagne, so basically the perfect weekend in Paris right?!

| * | Getting Married

guess I wont be needing that 'ain't no wifey' tshirt
In the span of three weeks Nick and I went from same old same old to Mr & Mrs. And I wouldn't of had it any other way

Risa Michelle
I am now the overly attached, stupidly in love, can't stop talking about, do you want to see a photo- mom of the best (who could disagree?) german shepherd.

Phew! Day to day life here has finally reached a sense of normalcy so hopefully that means updates about what goes on during those non-routine days :)

And I can almost promise they won't all be dog pictures.

You So Fancy

On a daily basis, I drop food on myself. I trip and fall, say inappropriate things at inappropriate times and regularly embarrass myself and those around me.

But damn do I love faking the fancy with VIP tickets, business class, hotel suites you name it I want to experience it (and then  instagram it!).

So I couldn't wait to go through the World's Best Awards feature in this August's Travel + Leisure -- would I have stayed at even one of these fancy hotels? Where should I be trying to talk Mr A into taking me next! Turns out I've been taking my fake fancy to a few of the the right places :)

Top 10 Islands Overall (#6)

While I haven't been to toooo many islands, it's still easy for me to say that Bali is one of the most beautiful ones! The weather was perfect and the scenery was everything you could want from an exotic paradise (cheeky monkeys is pretty high on that list for me). Of course it didn't hurt that I woke up to this every morning ...

Another exciting pull from the article was seeing the hotel we're staying at in Costa Rica ALL OVER THE PLACE! Top Hotel Overall (#4), Top Hotel Spas Overall (#8) & Top 3 Hotel Spas,Central And South America (#1) --- whoa! We'll be spending time at the Nayara Hotel, Spa & Gardens in La Fortuna and if I was excited before, I seriously can't wait now!

Planning for Cali

Well if it hasn't been made abundantly apparent yet, I'm maybe not the most prepared when it comes to packing and planning trips more than 48 hours out. BUT! My google calendar currently has a mess of links to articles that seemed like things I should remember to check out while Mr A and & I wander our way up the West Coast. I was going to spend today narrowing it down but, look what I found!!!

A) GREAT song, B) cute puppies. Yeah, not getting much else done today.

Getting to Sandy Island

If you're not into scuba diving but find yourself on the island paradise of Grenada do yourself a favor and take a day to spend at Sandy Island. The snorkeling is amazing as is the view, the water, the sand, everything! The reef is located only feet away from this glorified sandbar and it's easy to spend an entire afternoon snorkeling and sunbathing.

Getting there ...

You will need to take the Ospry Ferry from St. George to Carricaou Island which leaves at 9am. To the best of my knowledge there is no way to pre-purchase a ticket, you buy on the dock when you get there.

HOPEFULLY you get the bigger boat, we went on a Sunday when they weren't expecting as many people so we got the smaller boat which ended up taking 3 hours get from St. George to Carriacou (sidenote, the trip out can be a little rough, if you get motion sick, I suggest taking precautions)

Once you arrive at Carriacou, take a cab to Hardwood Bar and ask for a water taxi to Sandy Island.

You are now on a glorified sandbar for the next 4 hours with no bathroom, very few people, and surrounded by too many types of fish to count.

Oh! And if you see my friend the sea turtle, tell him I say hi :)

5 Things to do on Island Tme

Grenada is a lesser-known island in the Caribbean, probably best known for scuba diving and has this really cool underwater sculpture garden for those who find enjoyment getting there oxygen out of a little tube strapped to their back while feeling simultaneously totally claustrophobic and extremely lost underwater (Oh, is that just me?)

For those more inclined to stay above water (or shallowly associated with it) Grenada is a great off-the-beaten-path island in the Caribbean to explore. There are no gigantic all inclusive resorts, and the most tourism they get is a cruise ship stopping into port for the afternoon.

So here are 5 things to do in Grenada that don't involve being in charge of your own oxygen levels

|*| Visit the Spice Market in St. George's on Saturday mornings and grab a coconut to sip on while seeing what the Isle of Spice has to offer (lots of cinnamon and nutmeg). This is also a great opportunity to wander the streets of St. George's and walk up to Fort George.

View from Fort George

|*| Visit the Annandale Waterfall, just a short drive from St. George. Here you have the opportunity to swim at the base of the falls.

|*| You'd be hard pressed to get me to pass up a rum factory tour, so that's exactly what we did! Rivers Rum factory which still uses a water wheel to crush the sugar cane! The factory is located on the top of the island, but if you're planning a stop at the seven sisters waterfall, or a vist to Lake Antoine it's not much further to the rum factory (I like seeing where my food comes from, be it a chicken, or a rum punch)

Okay, enough with all that, now comes the real reason a sane person would want to go to Grenada. The beaches! The most well recognized beach on the island is Grand Anse.

I could spend a day or seven here

Now just because this is a scuba destination, doesn't mean that those who are omg-water-petrifies-me can't enjoy some of that underwater beauty! Grenada is a great place to snorkel with reefs located just feet away from the beach that are teeming with beautiful fish. If you want to spend the day snorkeling, I would definitely recommend going to Sandy Island located off of Carriacou Island. Here are a few pics, I'll be putting up another post with the logistics of getting there!
